After Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Southampton, Lucas Leiva took to Instagram, and fans of the club may not have understood a lot of the resulting comments.
Over the weekend, Lucas got himself involved in some old Brazilian rivalry, and now his Instagram comments are full of Portuguese.
We’ll explain why.
The State Championships in Brazil had their finals at the weekend and, as always, there were some surprises.
One of the big rivalries in Brazil stays in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, where Grêmio and Internacional are by far the biggest clubs. But as Grêmio did not reach the final, all they could do was support Novo Hamburgo, a small side who had never won the tournament before.
Novo Hamburgo beat Internacional on penalties, and Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva, a former Grêmio player, didn’t miss the chance to mock his rivals.
So he posted a picture on Instagram of Novo Hamburgo’s crest.
Internacional midfielder Edenilson didn’t like the joke, and made a comment on Lucas’ post to tell him that he’s not an important player at Liverpool.
He also snapped the comment with the head of a clown in place of Lucas’ face.
“Have you learned English there already, @leivalucas? That’s why you went there, wasn’t it? Because I only see Coutinho and Firmino playing. You don’t need this kind of thing.”
Lucas tried to be a gentleman in response, and even asked Edenilson, who despite loans in Italy, never succeeded there, to teach him the local language.
“@oficialedenilson I’ve already learned English and I’ve already played 350 games for Liverpool, my friend. The joke is a part of it and I understand you’re upset, but I have the right to mock my red mates. Stay strong and good luck.”
“@oficialedenilson Another thing, my friend. Since I don’t get to play, I have a lot of free time and I’m wanting to learn Italian, if you’re up to teaching let me know. Hugs.”
Was Lucas hinting at a move to Italy… or just winding up a rival? Time will tell.
