In November, France’s Canal+, who don’t usually over hype things, revealed that West Ham were one of the clubs interested in signing Clement Grenier.
The 25 year old hasn’t been as prominent for Lyon this season as would probably be expected, and the club’s manager Bruno Genesio clearly prefers other options. Having repeatedly struggled with injury, Grenier now insists he’s been fully fit for a while and wants to get games.
The November claim said a loan with a view to a permanent deal was the likeliest scenario, with AS Roma and Fiorentina also interested, but a straight transfer couldn’t be ruled out.
On Wednesday, RMC ran an article with the headline: Clement Grenier: “I’m ready to go elsewhere”
The midfielder is quoted as saying: “I have a few approaches from French clubs. A little bit in Germany, Italy and two in England. But nothing is done yet. We move a little faster with one club than others.”
There’s every possibility that one of the English clubs would be West Ham, indeed given the previous reliable link and the Hammers tendency to approach half the players in Europe ahead of a transfer window, it’s a pretty good bet.
