After his antics during the January window, it was only a matter of time before Henry Onyekuru spoke about what the summer had in reserve for him, and Celtic fans will be pleased with what he had to say last Sunday.
The young Nigerian forward was once again decisive for KAS Eupen at the weekend, scoring the second goal in a 2-1 win against Lokeren with his side down to 10 men.
Calmly chipping the keeper after being put through on goal, the Celtic January target’s goal was met with some whistles by the away fans, a reaction the player commented on after the game, relayed by DH.
He said: “The fans’ attitude is understandable. The best answer I could give to them was by scoring important goals.”
Despite his behaviour towards the end of January when he tried to force a move to Celtic Park, the 19-year-old returned to the team after apologising to the club’s staff and players.
Scoring two important goals in Eupen’s fight against relegation (they’re now safe), Onyekuru also revealed his plans for the summer by saying “Yes, I’m leaving”.
As for whether or not Brendan Rodgers’ side have the upper hand, the player simply said “I don’t know, but I’m leaving in the summer” after a brief pause.
A huge boost for Celtic, then, who will need to pay around €7m, if L’Avenir are to be believed, for the young Nigerian starlet if they want to stand a chance at securing his services.
