Plucked out of the Milan squad during a preseason game in 2019 to be transferred somewhat against his will, Patrick Cutrone never managed to settle at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Goals were tough to come by, and eventually a loan to Fiorentina was sorted out, but that never worked out, with the one and a half year deal being cut short after 12 months.

Then came a spell at Valencia, which was also a disaster, meaning Cutrone, two years from the end of his Wolves contract, was in need of a new club once again last summer.

Empoli came knocking in August, and the 23-year-old returned to Italy on loan, but this time it’s working out.

He’s playing quite regularly, and while goals are still a concern (just two in 14 league appearances), Cutrone is feeling much better and proud to say so.

Speaking to DAZN and relayed by Il Posticipo, he said: “I’m happy because even if I don’t score, I make myself useful, I always give my soul for the team. Empoli make me feel important, they make me feel good”.

The issue for Cutrone, however, is that the deal taking him to Empoli from Wolves doesn’t have an option to buy in it, meaning, as things stand, he will return to Molineux come the end of the season.

What happens beyond that remains to be seen, but if he can get his stock back up with a good second half of the season, he shouldn’t have too many difficulties finding a suitor.
