As the visits of Newcastle United scouts to Portugal seem to get more frequent, we now get to see a new report about the Magpies’ hunt for Liga Bwin talents.

Newspaper Record today writes that the Premier League club had officials at the match between Porto and Braga, which was won 1-0 by the Dragons.

And even though Portuguese outlets normally only release the name of clubs who sent scouts to the game, they have a little more to say about Newcastle this time.

They claim that the ‘new rich’ club have ‘several identified targets in Portuguese football’, with Porto star Luis Diaz ‘among them’. Now the Magpies ‘certainly took notes’ from the winger’s performance.

It turns out this was a good night to watch Diaz, as the 24-year-old scored a beautiful goal which guaranteed Porto’s win. He was elected the man of the match by most of the local media.

The winger is protected by an €80m release clause, and his form this year has drawn interest from several European sides. The word in Portugal is that Porto don’t want to lose the player in the January window, although it seems inevitable they’ll sell him in the summer.
