Philippe Coutinho’s move from Aston Villa to Vasco da Gama has been one of the big stories in the Brazilian sports media recently, and even the national team manager is now commenting on it.

Dorival Junior spoke to the local media at the Maracanã Stadium on Sunday, and one of the questions was about the midfielder.

In quotes featured by CNN, the coach claimed to be glad that Coutinho is leaving Aston Villa for Vasco, teasing that the move can give him a new chance to play for the national team.

“I’m happy, Philippe has a lot to do, he could be very important to the club. He’s another player who’s on our radar because of his qualities,” said Dorival Junior.

Evem though initial reports said Aston Villa should loan Coutinho to Vasco, it’s now been said that he will have his contract with the English club rescinded.

UOL claimed that the process should take a couple of weeks. The player is currently in Brazil, where he’s expected to accelerate talks with his new club, who certainly can’t afford to cover the salary he used to make at the Premier League side.

Speaking to local journalists last week, Coutinho claimed ‘everyone already knows’ his next destination.
