Amadou Onana has cemented his place in the starting XI after arriving at Goodison Park last summer and believes his performances have helped him avoid discontent from Everton fans.

The Toffees supporters haven’t held back when expressing their unhappiness towards board members and some players this season.

Everton are in 18th spot and their poor run saw Frank Lampard sacked in January. He was replaced by Sean Dyche in the same month.

Earlier this week, the midfielder admitted it hasn’t been easy season for the Merseyside club and also expressed his disappointment over Lampard’s exit. In another interview, the 21-year-old now details why Everton supporters have spared him.

“I am spared because I perform well. I am very satisfied with that. My objective was to quickly adapt to the Premier League and become a permanent fixture. I succeeded,” he told Het Nieuwsblad.

“Collectively it has to be better. Everton is a mythical club that has never failed. It has to stay that way. We are now in a relegation place, but at the bottom of the standings the differences are small.”

The Belgium international was reportedly a target for Arsenal and Chelsea in January. He and his agent refused to confirm or deny these links.

At the same time, Onana has set himself a target of getting a move to a big club in the next few years.

“I fought to be where I am now. I didn’t receive anything as a gift. That now helps me to keep my feet on the ground. But I am ambitious: within five years I want to play for one of the biggest teams in the world. Nothing is impossible, I’ve learned that over the years. (pauses) I’ve known misery, people sometimes forget that. I will never do that,” Onana explained.

The Everton player, however, didn’t specify a league or a club that he dreams to move to in the future.
