Earlier on Thursday, we covered a story from L’Equipe saying that Marseille were interested in Aston Villa’s Carlos Sanchez,
The French newspaper claimed talks had already started and that a fee of around €3m would be enough, and now there’s been an update.
The news has reached La Provence, Marseille’s local newspaper, who have been able to confirm that the Ligue 1 club have indeed made contact with Aston Villa, which makes this story as good as confirmed.
They state the reason behind the French club’s interest in the Colombian defensive midfielder is Idrissa Gueye’s reluctance to leave England, as Marseille were reported to have been interested in the Senegalese midfielder, who turned them down.
La Provence also claim the price for Sanchez could be as little as €2m, instead of the €3m touted by L’Equipe, which means the Midlands club could make up to a £3.5m loss on the 30-year-old.
Then again, if they’re trying to cull some of the deadwood, they might not mind.
