Andreas Pereira and ‘idol of the fans’ aren’t things which usually fit together, but he’s been making friends in Rome during his loan with Lazio, report Corriere dello Sport.
The Manchester United owned player has only been given 340 minutes of Serie A football so far this season, which is hardly enough for him to become anyone’s ‘idolo’. He’s scored one goal in the competition, back in November against Torino, and managed an assist in eight January minutes against Atalanta.
Off the pitch is where Andreas has really been fitting in well, with him interacting with supporters on social media. That’s seen many Lazio supporters take him to their heart, and they’d like to see him given more chances on the pitch.
However, manager Simone Inzaghi picks players for what they can provide on the pitch and not based on someone’s approachability on Instagram. Corriere dello Sport explain that Andreas doesn’t really fit in with Lazio’s style, and Inzaghi has struggled to find a position the player can excel in, having tried several already.
Lazio are therefore ‘unlikely’ to pay the €27m needed to make the move permanent, and in reality that clause always seemed more designed for positive Manchester United headlines than anything else.
Unless something changes, and there are apparently a lot of Lazio supporters hoping things can get better, the 25-year-old will be back at Old Trafford in the summer.
