‘But where did Georges-Kévin Nkoudou go?’
That’s what France Football asks on Thursday as they look at the Tottenham player’s difficult situation, how he ended up with these difficulties, and where things go from here.
The 23 year old has managed to get just 26 minutes of senior football so far this season, in the EFL Cup match against West Ham.
France Football say a January exit is ‘more than likely’ and they’ve spoken to the player’s agent Meïssa Ndiaye about the situation. He’s as frustrated as his client will be and insists the fact Nkoudou didn’t move in the summer had nothing to do with a lack of interest.
Despite a poor loan spell with Burnley, there was interest and approaches from “Many German, French, Spanish clubs.”
Ndiaye has explained the reason no transfer happened was entirely down to Tottenham and those in charge at the Premier League club: “The president and the owner of Tottenham are not the easiest to seduce in the transfer window. The fact that he did not leave is only the responsibility of the club. Things could not succeed for economic reasons, but it was not a drama either.”
That’s not a huge surprise, and Spurs will want to get all of their investment back, even if that’s a big ask.
France Football suggests there’ll be interest within Ligue 1 for the player, and quote the agent as saying: “The idea is to leave in January. Both sides want to move forward and turn the page.”
Meïssa Ndiaye insists his client hasn’t lost heart and continues to train hard. He also doesn’t believe the move to Spurs has been a complete disaster, because Nkoudou has benefitted from training with top players daily.
