Argentine outlet TNT Sports featured this week a long interview with former footballer Beto Acosta. The 54-year-old, who played for big South American sides, had enough time to recall his entire career.
It turns out the striker also talked about what didn’t happen in his time as a player, and that was to feature in some specific leagues. That’s when he revealed he had the wish to sign for Manchester United in England.
“I’d have liked to play for Manchester United,” Acosta told TNT Sports (via En Cancha). “I’d also have loved to go to Italy or Spain.”
Besides playing for South American sides such as Boca Juniors, San Lorenzo and Universidad Católica, Acosta spent some time in European football, appearing for Portuguese side Sporting between 1998 and 2001, where he won a league title.
Considering that Manchester United had the likes of Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the centre-forward position at the time, it was certainly a tough objective to join Sir Alex Ferguson’s side in those years.
