Used as both a centre-back and a defensive midfielder by André Villas-Boas this season, Boubacar Kamara is enjoying his football at Marseille.
The local youngster has taken to his new role rather well, and this versatility, as well as his good performances, have caught the eye of a few teams.
One of those is Manchester City, who have been tracking his progress for quite some time now, even attempting to sign him back in 2017, and there was a belief they could try again in the near future.
However, it was made very clear by his entourage to Foot Mercato recently that Kamara would not be leaving Marseille ‘no matter what and regardless of the clubs interested’.
This showed both loyalty and an understanding that regular football with his current club was more important at 20 than prestige and money; a move that has been backed by Samir Nasri.
Speaking on Instagram Live with French journalist Bertrand Latour, the former Manchester City forward was asked about Kamara’s situation.
He said, relayed by Foot Mercato: “I’d advise him to stay. He’s a good player. He was irregular last year. They stabilised him in midfield, where he’s very good. He’ll be even better, but he needs experience. You’re going to get that playing Champions League with your childhood club.
“After that, you can leave. If he wants to leave now, he needs an important step. Not the top just yet”.
Seeing as Manchester City would be ‘the top’, as Nasri puts it, any move away from Marseille would need to be well thought out.
Then again, since he appears has no intention of leaving, he doesn’t have to think about it.
It’s quite simple really.
