Spending over £11m on Roque Mesa over the summer, Swansea bought one of the better performers in La Liga last year, yet the midfielder has struggled to impose himself at Liberty Stadium.
The 28-year-old only has six appearances to his name, with three of those coming in the EFL Cup, and, despite getting some backing from his manager, Paul Clement, the defensive midfielder hasn’t featured in a league games since the 30th of September.
This, however, hasn’t stopped him from believing he can be a success with the Welsh club in a brief interview with La Provincia in Spain amid requests for his return to his former club, UD Las Palmas.
He said: “I can only say that in football, you never know. I appreciate that you want me to return, but I will not give up yet. I will continue trying as I have always done in my career, and I will do so here, in Swansea”.
Even if things haven’t gone to plan so far, it’s still early in the season, and there’s plenty of time for Roque Mesa to establish himself as he did previously in his career.
Since he wasn’t called up for Spain, the defensive midfielder will have had plenty of time to train with some of his teammates at Swansea, and he’ll certainly be hoping to have impressed Clement enough to start against Burnley on Saturday.
Either way, he’s going to fight until the end.
