Currently in South Korea preparing to take part in Brazil’s upcoming friendlies, Newcastle United star Bruno Guimarães had a word with the media about his rise at the national team.
With the player signing for the Magpies in January, he joined a side who were risking relegation to the Championship, so he was asked if he was ever afraid that his transfer could end with his chances of playing for the national team.
Bruno admitted that it was an issue for his decision, pointing out how difficult it was to accept the move to Newcastle United at first.
“It was one of the hardest decisions of my life, I think I went about four days without sleep. I’m not going to lie, I was afraid, yes,” said Bruno Guimarães (via Globo Esporte).
“Even more so because the club was in the relegation zone. But after I got there and did my first workout, confidence went up again. After I started playing, everything started to work out, we ended up in 11th, a team that was second to last. The best decision of my life was to go to Newcastle, to the Premier League, I believe it may have been a differential in my call-ups too”
Bruno Guimarães also made a few comments about his adaptation to the Premier League and Newcastle, claiming this was the best season he’s ever had in his career.
“It’s a very difficult competition, all games are level, all teams are good. It was a very difficult decision to go to Newcastle, but I believe that for my career it was a differential. I’m very happy for my moment. In a matter of season, it was my best by far. The Premier League really is different.”
“Every game in the Premier League is difficult, there are no easy games, we see the last winning the first sometimes, it’s a very difficult championship, at a very high intensity.
“As much as I played in Ligue 1, when I went to the Premier League I felt the intensity in the first three games a lot. It’s very different, the hardest league in the world, it’s very difficult to play, but it’s the league I always wanted to be in, I think every player could play at least a year in the Premier League to see that it’s different.”
In the coming weeks, Brazil are playing South Korea, Japan and Argentina, all in friendlies.
Newcasstle’s Bruno Guimarães is using the upcoming games to try to convince Tite he deserves a starting place in the team for the World Cup.
