Welcomed like a king when signed on loan from Real Madrid, Martin Ødegaard has done well in his brief time at Arsenal so far.
His two goals in 12 appearances aren’t exactly breathtaking, but everyone seems to be very happy with his performances, including himself.
Shunned to one side by Zinedine Zidane in Spain, the Norway international sought some game time elsewhere with a loan in January, with Mikel Arteta more than happy to give him that following the exit of Mesut Özil.
Now on national team duty with his country, Ødegaard had a chat with VG, who asked the midfielder about his time so far at the Emirates.
He said: “I think it’s been rising, really, right from the start. I took to the way they play quite quickly. I also lacked a little self-confidence and things like that, and I feel I have gotten better and better every day”.
Describing Arteta as ‘incredibly good’, the playmaker believes ‘there is a lot to learn from him’ in the coming months, which could prove key for his future.
No interview at this stage of the season would be complete without a question about next summer, and VG don’t fail in that department, asking the Arsenal loanee what he thinks the ‘way forward’ looks like for him.
He replied: “To be completely honest, I haven’t thought about it. Now I have an appointment in the summer, and I’m focusing on it. I want stability and development. Those are key.”
