Reports in England of Yosuke Ideguchi potentially moving to Leeds United seem to be ahead of reports in Japan.

Relatively arm length links were given The Sun treatment when it was claimed Leeds United had snapped up ‘Gamba Osaka starlet Yosuke Ideguchi after triggering £700,000 release clause’.

This has of course all created some waves in Japan, where it’s considered slightly curious. Leeds United are outside a transfer window, and Ideguchi would have work permit problems.

A general idea of a move to England seems to be accepted for some point in the future. Japan’s Sponichi say Ideguchi has often declared “I want to play in Europe someday,” and it’s stated the player is learning English.

Ideguchi has been attracting attention from several European clubs, and the Japanese assumption is Leeds United want to get ahead of the competition.

But the big disadvantage for Leeds would be that it’s more difficult to get a work permit to play here than it is elsewhere in Europe.
