As most of you will know by now, Chelsea are currently under certain restrictions following the sanctions placed upon Roman Abramovich.
The club is trying to run as normally as possible in the meantime, but there are big questions being asked about its future in the short and long term, with the subject being discussed all throughout Europe.
The Blues beat Newcastle 1-0 at Stamford Bridge over the weekend, with a late goal from Kai Havertz breaking the deadlock in the 89th minute, but a lot of the talk will still have been about the club’s situation off the field, which was the case in the Sky Italia studios.
TuttoMercatoWeb in Italy quote Matteo Marani, an Italian journalist, who spoke on the TV channel as a pundit about Chelsea.
He said: “It’s a situation at the limit, a very complex and delicate affair. The relations between Abramovich and Putin are not in question, there is also talk of the support given to the president. I believe that, in general, sport should do something: it is doing it, and it has done it.
“You cannot remain helpless, Kiev is under siege and the bombing reaches the western border of Ukraine. We are not in another world. I understand the Chelsea fans, but some measures are inevitable.”
We’ll have to wait and see what comes of situation at Stamford Bridge in the coming weeks and months, but it’s clear that with the sale of the club currently on hold, there will be some worry in certain parts of west London.
In the meantime, Thomas Tuchel will do his best to keep the on pitch drama to a minimum, with Chelsea next playing Lille in the Champions League on Wednesday.
