Xherdan Shaqiri was repeatedly linked with a Liverpool exit around the winter market, and those claims have returned in recent weeks.
There’s been several claims coming out of Italy about interest from AS Roma, and on Monday we covered a report which stated the Serie A club are interested, but face several hurdles between themselves and transfer.
Firstly, there’s the fee Liverpool would want, that Shaqiri is thought to be looking for Champions League football, and also his salary.
Now his brother has been speaking. In an interview with Kosovo TV, picked up by Swiss newspaper Blick, Erdin said: “I think there will be many offers for Xherdan in the summer. Already in January there was concrete interest from two or three clubs. These – their names have already been taken up in various media – will knock again.”
That would seem to back up the Roma interest, with the Italians also linked in the January window. Borussia Dortmund are another club thrown into the picture by Blick.
Erdin doesn’t believe his brother has been having the best of times at Liverpool, and it’s clear a transfer is certainly a possibility: “Xherdan’s situation in Liverpool is not easy because of several minor injuries that lasted longer than we thought. Coach Jürgen Klopp is in talks with him about more game practice – we have to wait and see.
“I think Xherdan deserves a lot more. He was unlucky with his injuries. But every time he could play again, he did his job and changed the game.”
Xherdan Shaqiri’s problem at Liverpool is the competition and the level of the players ahead of him.
