Frenkie de Jong’s current situation at Barcelona is starting to encourage further anger in the Dutch media.
For the entire summer window, the Blaugrana have been trying to sell him to Manchester United, with Chelsea also entering the scene in recent weeks. During the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, De Jong deferred a big chunk of his wages and it’s becoming increasingly clear Barca simply don’t want to pay this money to the Dutchman.
Therefore, according to the Catalan media, he’s been given multiple ultimatums about either leaving the club or taking a big pay cut if he’s determined to stay.
Another pundit, Arno Vermeulen, was more in attack mode: “What Barcelona is doing to Frenkie is incomprehensible. This club is completely off track, with chairman Joan Laporta leading the way.”
Rafael van der Vaart, who is always happy to share an opinion, also went in strong on Barca: “They should be ashamed of themselves at Barcelona. Someone has to stand up for the players, right?”
Growing anger in the Netherlands over how De Jong is being treated, may just encourage the midfielder and his family to look more kindly on a move to Manchester United this summer.
