Jose Enrique left Liverpool in the summer and signed up for Segunda Division side Real Zaragoza. The aim for the club is to achieve promotion to La Liga, but Enrique hasn’t been able to help them so far.
Speaking to Spanish newspaper Marca, Enrqiue was asked why he hasn’t been playing and if it’s because he’s not match fit, and the former Liverpool player replied: “I’m fine to play… The pace is caught playing games.”
Asked if he could get his first minutes this weekend, Enrique said: “It is a coach’s decision. I am very well and I am available. I came to play and achieve the goal of the team, which is as high as possible. We have very good squad and I want as soon as possible to be able to contribute.”
It’s a strange situation, Enrique won’t be on small wages for the club, so to not ultilise him yet would suggest the club’s manager isn’t seeing what he wants in training.
When it was put to Enrique that he had injury problems at Liverpool, he replied: “No, what happens is you get older, you’re not like at 20 years, and you have to care more. I have always been professional and I’ve kept in shape. I’m fine. Last year I had no problem, and if I did not play it was a technical decision of Jurgen Klopp.”
