KRC Genk striker Tolu Arokodare has admitted he’s seen the rumours linking him to Fulham this week but isn’t going to add fuel to them.
De Standard cover comments from the 23-year-old today as he finds himself being linked with Fulham after an impressive start to the season.
He joined Genk in a €5m deal from Amiens SC in January 2023 and has bee in the goals ever since, with 23, plus five assists, in 73 games so far.
This season he’s been in particularly fine form in the Jupiler Pro League as he’s managed six goals in ten games to date.
That form has led to reports that he could soon be on his way, with Fulham keeping a close eye on his development. They are already Nigerian internationals Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi on their books and could unite Arokodare with his compatriots.
Marco Silva’s side are currently well stocked for strikers with Raul Jimenez and Rodrigo Muniz on the books, with the Mexican striker currently in fine form and looking like his old self.
That would suggest a move for another striker isn’t at the top of their thinking and Arokodare isn’t getting ahead of himself, focusing more on getting a call up for Nigeria, where he would meet the Fulham duo.
“Just like you, I read the rumours on social media, but I am happy in Genk,” he said.
“For the national team I know that I have to play in a major competition in the long term. If a Nigerian striker scores three times in the Premier League or the Bundesliga, I know that I have to score at least eight times to have a chance of being called up.
“It would be great to wear the shirt of my country. If the national coach does not call me up, I still have a club to focus on.”
