Things have escalated pretty quickly in Manchester United’s pursuit for River Plate midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
It was on Wednesday morning that the Argentine media first reported that the Red Devils were interested in the 21-year-old, pointing out they’d have a scout to watch him in the Copa Libertadores match against Fortaleza.
Other reports then soon came out, claiming that Manchester United had scouted Fernandez for consecutive times, and with the player doing well last night, it was soon claimed the officials must have been impressed with what they saw.
After the match, Fernandez was asked about the Red Devils’ interest, and tried not to sound overexcited about the chance of moving to the Premier League side.
“Calmly, humbly, with a low profile. I try to work day by day to keep improving and growing”, said Fernandez (via TyC Sports).
“Luckily I’m finding regularity, continuity and my teammates and the coaching staff help me a lot. I handle it well. I’m grateful for the compliments, I read a lot of the messages they send and I’m happy. I will continue on this path.”
Fernandez is protected by a release clause worth €20m, and it’s still not known if Manchester United are willing to pay that amount.
According to the recent reports, the Red Devils face the competition from Real Madrid for the signing.
