AS Roma sporting director Monchi has told the Italian media he knows nothing about Chelsea wanting to meet the buyout clause of Kostas Manolas, other than what we’ve all already read.

The Greek defender has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Calciomercato.it have reported on comments Monchi made in a press conference when quizzed about the future of Manolas: “Manolas is happy here, he wants to stay. I read that Chelsea wants to pay the clause, but I do not know anything about this.”

In recent seasons Manolas has been linked with a move to the Premier League, and this summer it seems Chelsea are the club showing an interest.

Last week we covered reports from Italy that Chelsea are prepared to pay the player’s termination fee, which is reportedly €36m.

It was also claimed the Premier League side are willing to offer Manolas €5m a season, which would be a huge increase on the €2m he currently earns with Roma.

Another factor in Chelsea’s reported interest in the Greece international is that he would again be partnered with his former Roma teammate Antonio Rudiger.
