André Carrillo, who was at Watford on loan in the 2017/18 season, has labelled the club as ‘small’.
The Peru international joined Watford on loan from Benfica, enduring a very mixed campaign at Vicarage Road.
That season saw him make 30 appearances in all competitions, although he managed just two goals and two assists across the year.
He started the season as a regular in the first team but soon found himself out of favour by the end of January, regularly finding himself on the bench or earning limited minutes.
In fact, of the last 11 leagues games that season he found himself managing just four appearances and was left out of Watford’s squad for four of the last five games.
It meant by the end of the season Watford did not elect to turn his loan deal into a permanent one, with Carrillo instead returning to Benfica before moving to Al-Hilal Riyadh.
And it seems he does not look back fondly on his time in England, saying he prefers to play for teams who aren’t fighting relegation.
“I am happy here (Al-Hilal), any player has to be in a place where they are happy, where they play. I’m happy; I win titles. I’m very happy here,” he told La Republica.
“Maybe in Portugal, I was also doing well. I played for important teams. In England, the first six months, I played a lot, but the other six not so much.
“Watford was a small team, and they fight not to be relegated. I prefer to play in a big team that fights for titles.”
