By and large one of the best players in the Championship, Emiliano Buendía could have left Norwich City when the club were relegated last season.

He’s admitted so himself, but the Argentine wanted to repay the team for everything they had done for him, so he stayed.

Fast forward to 41 games into the season, and the Canaries are comfortably top of the table, eight points ahead of Watford, with promotion back to the Premier League in their sights.

With 12 goals and 16 assists to his name, Buendía has been instrumental to his team’s good form, to whom he owes so much.

Speaking to Gianluca Di Marzio, he said: “Norwich was the best opportunity of my career. In Spain, I no longer felt like a footballer and I wanted to have fun again. I was at Getafe. This offer from the Championship came and the project convinced me. It was a great challenge. I like challenges. Luckily, it went well for me”.

The player was then asked if the Covid-19 pandemic prevented him from changing teams last summer, he replied: “Maybe, yes. We talked about it a lot last summer and I was pleased. It means that I’m doing things well. I could have changed clubs, but here I was fine. I wanted to bring Norwich back to the Premier League”.

As for where he will be next season: “I don’t know what will happen. Never say never in football, but playing in the Premier League attract me a lot. I follow all European football, but I do it for passion, not to think about my next team”.

The first goal for Buendía, and for Norwich, is to win the Championship and get promoted back to the Premier League.

Once that’s done, the summer will be interesting for the player, who will surely have a number of suitors at his door in the coming months.
