With the Brazilian league being full of stars this year, the press has been contacting Brazilian players in Europe and asking them if they would fancy a return to their home country as well.
This is the case of Chelsea winger Willian, who spoke to Esporte Interativo after the Blues’ game against Ajax, and was quizzed about his future.
His contract with Chelsea expires at the end of the season, and that’s why clubs like his former side Corinthians would have a bigger chance to land him.
But speaking to Esporte Interativo, the player makes clear that he’s not planning anything like that.
“Of course when you talk about Corinthians, the club that launched me, I have a great affection. But honestly, I don’t think about returning to Brazil.”
“I think I have a lot of wood to burn here in Europe. I have a market. I’m very happy here at Chelsea. Of course my contract is ending now, at the end of the season it’s over. But I’m happy at Chelsea and I plan to stay out here.”
Willian started in the Corinthians system at the age of ten, but didn’t last long in the first team. He made his debut in 2006, and one year later was sold to Shakhtar Donetsk in a €14m deal. He later moved to Anzhi in January 2013 and to Chelsea the following summer.
The 31-year-old isn’t the only Brazilian in London who’s not planning a return to his home country so soon. Earlier this week we covered an interview from former Chelsea player David Luiz, who explained he’s quite happy where he is for the foreseeable future.
