During the broadcast of Newcastle United’s clash against Everton in the Premier League, ESPN Brasil featured an interview with Magpies’ midfielder Bruno Guimarães.
The Brazilian, who joined the club in a €42m move from Lyon in January, brought a few details about his move to St. James’ Park, and what convinced him to make that transfer happen.
“I analysed everything, it was one of the hardest decisions of my career so far,” Bruno told ESPN Brasil.
“I was doing well at Lyon, consolidated, always playing, Europa League., but from the moment Lyon accepted the proposal, I talked to Newcastle, I saw the players they signed…”
Bruno Guimarães also talked about the tough challenges he’s had in his first few months in the Premier League, claiming he expects Newcastle to be fighting for bigger things in the next season.
“I saw the sequence of games, of course. Obviously I knew how difficult it would be. As I said when I arrived here, one of the most difficult moments for Newcastle is these three months ahead, to stay in the Premier League. As of next season, the project is huge. I really believed in the project, I spoke to the director, coach, practically everyone. And everyone really wanted me here. I believe I made the right choice.”
Bruno Guimarães also talked about the chances of playing at the World Cup for Brazil this year, pointing out that his performances for Newcastle will be crucial for him to guarantee a place in the squad.
The midfielder has now been called up for the next round of the qualifiers, but still needs to do more to win a place in Tite’s starting team.
“It was one of the things that made me come here, my dream is to be at the World Cup, to play for the Brazilian team. I was called up, but I know it all depends on what I’m going to do at the club and at the national team as well. I hope to have more opportunities there to open up my space in the national team as well.”
