Throughout the end of February, a lot of rumours were circulating regarding the future of Watford loanee Juanfran, with reports of clauses that could hugely benefit the Hornets were he to change clubs this season.
Barcelona were looking at the Deportivo La Coruña player as an emergency signing following the injury sustained by Aleix Vidal, and the right-back was said to be near the top of their list.
As of yet, nothing has happened, and it seems the Watford man will finish the season at his current club, and will most likely stay there beyond the current campaign, as he expects a new contract to come his way when football takes its summer break.
Speaking La Voz de Galicia, the player said: “I am where I want to be. In the place for which I’ve fought, and I want to stay. What should happen is that when we discuss me staying, we’ll sit down, get rid of this €8m clause and then interests, rumours and offers will go away…”
Repeating multiple times that money wasn’t everything to him, the Watford loanee even admitted having to take a huge pay cut to join Deportivo La Coruña from Vicarage Road, which he wasn’t particularly against doing.
He explained: “It’s true that I lost a lot of money moving here. In the Premier League, there is a lot, and here, not that much. But it’s not all that matters. Watford gave me a lot of money, but very little to help my life. Deportivo gave me far less money, but other things I value more. The balance is in favour of Deportivo.”
Having never played for Watford since signing from Real Betis in 2014, there is very little chance the Spanish full-back will ever make an appearance under Walter Mazzarri.
After all, as long as he’s happy where he is…
