Nuno Tavares signed for Arsenal in July 2021 from Benfica, and then struggled to become a crucial player for the Gunners. He was in and out of the side in his first season, and for the current campaign it was thought best to send him out on loan.
Marseille came forward and it looks to have been a good choice for everyone involved. The 22-year-old has been a regular in Ligue 1 and the Champions League, and has scored three goals across 12 appearances.
The Arsenal owned player has been receiving a lot of praise in the French media, and there’s already hope that Marseille can keep him beyond the current season. They may have some luck with that, depending on how Mikel Arteta sees the situation.
Tavares has been speaking to Marseille’s local media, and his comments have been picked up by Le10 Sport. They say he’s been ‘indispensable’ for the club this season, and point out he’s been asked about another transfer next summer.
In reply to that, Tavares said: “The future? I do not think about it. I live in the moment day by day. I have no prospects, I keep my feet on the ground. The World Cup? I don’t really think about it. My goal is to do a good job at Marseille.”
