Southampton’s Mohamed Elyounoussi spent the last two seasons on loan at Celtic and during his temporary stay in Glasgow, the winger impressed for the Hoops.
The Norway international’s fine displays for Celtic convinced Ralph Hasenhüttl to include him in his plans at St Mary’s Stadium this season.
Elyounoussi has repaid his manager’s faith by scoring seven goals and registering three assists.
However, the former Basel man is not sure where his long-term future lies. His deal with the Saints runs until 2023 and the Premier League side have not yet opened talks over a new contract.
This has been confirmed by the player and he made these claims to the Norwegian media during Thursday’s pre-match press conference.
“For my part, you have to put yourself in a good position, but it is not something you go around thinking about. It’s about the next match and about doing the best we can, so others can take care of that bit. We have not sat down to talk about it yet,” he said, as relayed by TV2.
“The time is not quite ripe yet, there are still some matches left. We can rather sit down after the end of the season and see what opportunities we have and what Southampton want.”
Elyounoussi, for his part, has stressed his desire to continue with the English club beyond his current deal.
“I think I have shown that I am more than good enough for the Premier League. I really look at this as my first season in the Premier League,” the Norwegian added.
“I think it can only get better. I think Southampton see that too. I thrive there and have expressed that I would like to stay there longer.”
