Following the news that Everton were in talks with Rennes about a move for Serhou Guirassy, all eyes have been on what would happen next with the player.
What has become quickly apparent, especially following the arrival of Arnaud Kalimuendo from Paris Saint-Germain, is that the Toffees target is no longer part of Bruno Génésio’s plans.
Guirassy has only featured for 22 minutes for his club this season, and while there might have been a slight injury to deal with, now that he’s back and fit, he still isn’t training with the rest of the team.
That suggests transfer talks, with Everton a known interested party, and Génésio was asked on Friday about the player’s situation.
While never mentioning a potential transfer to Goodison Park, the manager explained why he had decided to put the player to one side, hinting an exit could be on the cards.
He said, relayed by L’Equipe: “There was first a small problem with his toe, nothing bad. And in his situation, it’s better for us to train him individually, because I don’t leave anyone behind, and he has an irreproachable mental state since I’ve been here.
“Regardless of his situation, he’s always left his feelings outside of the training ground. Beyond that, that’s how high level football is and I hope we will find a solution for him, so he can enjoy himself more than here.”
That doesn’t sound like Guirassy will be featuring anytime soon for Rennes, meaning Everton certainly have a chance here if they can find an agreement with both the Ligue 1 side and the player.
