The situation surrounding Jean-Clair Todibo at Toulouse, amid interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers, doesn’t appear to be getting cleared up anytime soon.
Brought in from the youth team to replace Issa Diop after the 21-year-old’s transfer to West Ham, the young defender hasn’t featured for the past couple of weeks, since he’s currently unsure what he wants to do with his future.
The club, according to reports, decided to push him to one side while he decided whether or not to sign his first professional contract with the Ligue 1 side, with clubs such as Wolves, RB Leipzig and Juventus all claimed to be circling around him.
However, it seems the situation has been overdramatised, if Toulouse’s manager is to be believed, explaining to RMC Sport, relayed by Les Violets, what actually happened.
He said: “I’m supportive of the chairman’s decision. We made him an offer. I think clubs contacted him. The president made him an offer never made before by the club. Todibo and his entourage are struggling to decide. He told me he wasn’t in the right headspace to play.
“Playing at the highest level doesn’t allow doubts. The chairman told him it was best if he took a break and train with the youth until he’s made his mind up. There’s no clash. The club behaved well, he knows that. The club has done a lot for him, we know he can bring a lot. I hope he’ll stay.”
Able to speak to clubs come the end of the calendar year, the 18-year-old will have a choice to make, especially if Nuno Espirito Santo and co. give him the chance to play regularly at Molineux Stadium.
For Toulouse, they’re just hoping he decides sooner rather than later, because they can hardly afford him not playing until January.
