Netherlands coach Dick Advocaat has told the Dutch media former Everton manager Ronald Koeman would be the perfect man to replace him in the national team.
Koeman was this week sacked by Everton after a poor start to the season.
Speaking to Voetbal international, Advocaat was asked if Koeman was the right manger to replace him in the national team “I think Ronald could do it very well. He also raises certain authority, and I believe that there are few people in the Netherlands who can bring something against his appointment. If the KNVB asks me, I would highly recommend him.”
With the Netherlands failing to get to next year’s World Cup it always seemed likely Koeman would be linked with the Oranje managers job.
Yesterday we covered that the Dutchman would be open to becoming the national coach, and now an influential figure like Advocaat will be backing him.
Koeman will be expected to return to football as soon as possible, following his dismissal from Everton on Monday. The Toffees’ 5-2 defeat to Arsenal resulted in the club dropping into the bottom three, and subsequently Koeman was shown the door.
Everton U23 manager David Unsworth has been put in temporary charge of the first team, ahead of tonight’s EFL Cup clash with Chelsea.
