Over the course of the January transfer window, Dusan Vlahovic had a choice to make: either stay at Fiorentina until the summer or move elsewhere.
If he chose the second option, he had two realistic options, and those were Arsenal and Juventus, with the latter of the two eventually winning the race by paying the Tuscan side around £74m.
Scoring immediately in the 2-0 win against Hellas Verona, Vlahovic has since struggled to find the back of the net regularly, scoring just two more from the subsequent four games, with both coming in the 3-2 win against FC Empoli.
Facing Spezia over the weekend, the Serbian drew a blank, with Juventus stumbling over the finish line in a 1-0 win, and Paolo Bargiggia, an Italian journalist, told 1Station Radio that the striker might have been better off choosing the Gunners over his current team.
He said, relayed by Sport e Vai: “It remains to be seen whether he will win trophies with Juventus. I will continue to be critical of Allegri. If football is to bring back the new generations, it must entertain the public. If I had been Vlahovic, I would have gone to the Premier League. In the summer, he could have gone to the best teams. Arsenal wanted him.
“Maybe he is happy at Juventus. Yesterday, however, there was an isolated Vlahovic in the Spezia box, while the other 10 were perched in Szczesny’s area. Juventus continue to play badly and it’s a fact.”
In the meantime, Arsenal have gone from strength to strength, losing just one Premier League game (against Manchester City) from their last 10, and recently seeing off the likes of Brentford, Wolves and Watford.
This puts Mikel Arteta’s side fourth in the table with three games in hand on fifth placed Manchester United.
