Fulham winger Willian is not thinking of going back to South America in the near future.
The 34-year-old had been playing for Brazilian club Corinthians before agreeing to join the Whites last year, when he signed a one-year contract.
Willian believes he made a good decision. Not only because Fulham have been doing well this season, but also because he’s happy to be back in London.
That was explained in an interview the player gave to UOL this week. There, he was asked if he’s planning to return to Brazil, and insisted he’s fine where he is.
“I feel very happy living here. The important thing is for us to feel good, regardless of where we are. It’s important to have peace, to feel good, to be happy in the place where you work and live. To have the peace of mind to enjoy life, and here I can feel good and happy, enjoying myself on and off the field,” Willian told UOL.
“I went back to Brazil, you know, for almost a year there. But here has always been the place where I myself said I wanted to live when I ended my career. Here is the place where I feel good and where I was welcomed. My daughters and family love living here. A spectacular city that we love. So I feel good here. I can say that I’m a little bit English too. Thank God I was able to get a document and become English.”
Those quotes may sound like Willian is snubbing Brazil, but the truth is that the player had a very bad experience when in South America last year.
Due to Corinthians’ bad form, he ended up under huge pressure and even received threats on social media. That’s why his spell there was shorter than expected and he soon returned to England.
Playing for Fulham this season, Willian has three goals and three assists in 21 appearances. His contract expires in three months.
