By the start of the January transfer window, we’ve seen reports claiming that Chelsea had made an attempt for the signing of Bayern Munich star Kingsley Coman.
A story from L’Equipe said the Blues had placed an offer for the player whose contract would expire in 2023. However, due to his wish of extending his deal with the Bundesliga giants, he chose to stay.
Coman did end up signing a new agreement with Bayern Munich, now committing his future to the club until 2027. And now in an interview with Sport 1, he explained his decision.
“I had a lot of good conversations with those in charge and the coach. At some point it was clear to me: I have everything here, so I don’t have to look elsewhere,” Coman told Sport 1.
“FC Bayern are like a family. When you get as much help as I did, especially after my heart surgery earlier in the season, you obviously want to give something back. You want to fight and do everything for the people who support you.”
Chelsea were not the only Premier League side who got linked to Coman in January. That same story from L’Equipe said Manchester City would also interested in his signing, as Pep Guardiola would like to reunite with the player, and Manchester United were claimed to be interested as well.
Coman, however, now explains that he took the decision to renew his deal with Bayern Munich back ‘in December’, and shows to be happy about it.
“Very glad! It makes me happy and proud to be going into the future with FC Bayern. With my contract extension, I made the best possible choice for myself and my career.”
