Former Crystal Palace youngster Bivesh Gurung has confirmed he is undergoing a trial at Chelsea.

The 19-year-old left the Eagles’ academy to join Norwegian side Trysil FK in 2019. After spending a year with Trysil, he was signed by second division Swedish side Ytterhogdals IK in January 2020.

Gurung is now without a club and has been looking for a new employer. This has brought him to Chelsea, where he has been training with the Blues U23 side for the past few weeks.

During an interview with Fotbolltransfers, the defensive midfielder revealed the opportunity to have a trial with the west London club materialised through his agent.

“I am currently training with Chelsea’s U23 team, I have been here for almost two weeks now, and the trial is still going on,” he said.

“So far, I have only trained daily and participated in the organised training matches. And the opportunity arose through my agent, Louis Alleyne. I enjoy it and want to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity that lies ahead of me right now.”

The youngster also detailed what brought him to Sweden. Although it hasn’t gone as per his plans, Gurung admitted there are a lot of positives to take from his time in Sweden.

“My agent and I both felt that it was a good step [moving to Sweden] to take in my career to gain more experience and play senior football. I would say that it was a successful period and it made me a more complete player,” Gurung explained.

“I mainly think that I am a technically good player. I play as a defensive midfielder, a bit like a deep-lying playmaker, and I would say I have a good passing game. But I am also a team player with determination and possess a winning mentality.”

Despite the ongoing trial at Chelsea, the teenager hasn’t ruled out the possibility of extending his stay in Sweden.

“Yes, it is still an option that I keep open. There has been interest in Sweden. In October, I was invited to train with the Allsvenskan club Östersunds FK for a short period. And I was also invited to go to AFC Eskilstuna,” Gurung concluded.
