Earlier today, we covered some surprising claims from Brazil that Crystal Palace have made an approach for the transfer of Gabriel Barbosa.
Loaned by Inter Milan to Santos, the 22-year-old’s contract with the Brazilian side expires in December. The Nerazzurri are not very interested in keeping him, which gives other clubs a chance.
Even though the player seems fine at Santos, who will fight to keep him at the club permanently, there’s no doubt that European sides would have an advantage in the race, partly because his agent’s intention is to move him to England.
And on Monday, Marca had an interview with Gabriel in which confirmed his wish to succeed in the top leagues. Asked about a ‘second chance’ in Europe, Gabriel has confirmed his desire.
“All the players that have been in Europe, especially the Brazilians, have that wish of winning in the Italian, Spanish, English league… and I am not different,” Gabriel told Marca.
“I have that dream, yes. I have a contract with Inter, I hope to solve everything with them and with my parents who are the ones who take care of my things.
“Today I am focused on Santos because we have nine games left. Later I will have to talk with Inter and with Santos as well. Then we will see what will be best for me. The intention is to be in a place where I am happy as I am being here.”
Inter Milan paid €30m to sign Gabriel in 2016, and are unlikely to sell him for much less than that. That’s why Santos are underdogs in the race, and would have no conditions to fight against a club of big financial power, such as Crystal Palace.
