One of the big stories early on in the transfer window was the situation surrounding Pape Gueye.
The young midfielder was signed by Watford before cancelling his contract soon after, feeling he was somewhat duped into moving to the now Championship club, and then went to Marseille on a free.
The 21-year-old has made eight appearances so far, starting three of them, and he has big plans for the future that would see him perhaps end at Liverpool.
We say that because Gueye recently gave an interview with Canal+ relayed by Afrique Sports, where he was asked if he would want to play for Senegal over France.
Eligible for both nations, the midfielder has played for France U18s and U19s so far, but could still change his mind.
That would be the easiest way of playing with one of his idols, who so happens to be Liverpool’s Sadio Mané.
He said: “For now, I’m focusing on my club. I’ve not chosen for the national team yet. I follow the Senegal national team like a true fan during competitions. Sadio Mané is a player I really like and I dream of playing with him”.
If he chooses France, however, the only way he could play with the Anfield star would be to join him at club level, wherever he will be at the time.
Very comfortable under Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool, the midfielder has been linked with a move away to Real Madrid in the past, but nothing ever really came from these despite Zinedine Zidane’s admiration for the winger.
