On Tuesday, Fulham’s Raúl Jiménez revealed he’s held talks with clubs from Mexico, MLS and Saudi Arabia but his preference is to continue in Europe.

The Mexico international’s contract expires in June and Fulham have an option to extend it for another year.

Speaking to TUDN‘s Faitelson Sin Censura, the Fulham player discussed the possibility of joining Club América on a short loan deal.

The striker spent six years at Club América before arriving in Europe in 2014. His former club have qualified for the Club World Cup that will kick start in the US on June 14th.

FIFA will allow clubs that have qualified for the tournament to make signings during a short window in June.

The Mexican club could take the 34-year-old on loan for the Club World Cup, but he’s not certain whether Fulham would be in favour of this operation.

“Let’s see. I don’t know if Fulham would give me permission to go to the Club World Cup with América because it’s different to go to the Gold Cup with Mexico, where they practically have to loan me out, but I would find it difficult,” he said.

El Tri have qualified for the Gold Cup, which also starts on June 14th. The former Wolves star insists he would prefer to represent his country in this tournament rather than joining Club América at the Club World Cup. At the same time, he keeps door open to return to his former club.

“Personally, as I’ve always said, I would like to return to América, but with the Gold Cup being played and the record for goals within reach for the national team. It’s a good opportunity to keep getting closer,” Jiménez explained.

“So, I think that right now, and seeing how things are going, I prefer the Gold Cup. I don’t want to go back and play for América at 40, but well, the time will come, and I hope it happens.”
