Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries has revealed he ‘didn’t think twice’ about rejecting an offer from Everton to join Inter Milan this summer.
The Dutch defender joined the Italian champions in the summer to replace Achraf Hakimi, who made a big-money move to Paris Saint Germain.
The move came after months of speculation about a transfer for the Dutchman, who established himself as a star in the making with a series of impressive performances for the Netherlands at the Euros.
Before that point, he had been heavily linked with a move to Everton, who were keen to sign him as a replacement for Seamus Coleman.
Several reports indicated that the Blues were close to getting a deal done, with it even believed they had sat down and discussed the situation with the player.
Ultimately, though, he ended up at Inter Milan, who swopped after losing Hakimi and could offer Champions League football to boot, something Everton definitely could not.
It appeared that Dumfries had simply gone with the better offer at the time, and he has now confirmed that was the case.
“It took some time before the deal with Inter was closed,” he told Voetbal International.
“I talked every day with Mino Raiola. My desire to wear the Inter shirt prevailed.
“Everton was there too, but I didn’t think twice. I really wanted to go to Inter. The Italian champion team, a club with a great tradition in Italy and in the Champions League.”
