For the second time this week, Luca Caldirola has spoken about his failed move to Tottenham Hotspur, and this time he’s also been quizzed on Chelsea.
Asked about opportunities to join the two London clubs as a youngster, Caldirola made it clear he’d have picked Tottenham over Chelsea.
Quoted by TuttoB, he said: “I was 15 years old and there were these opportunities. I was a big Spurs fan, I was crazy about them. I would have gone immediately to White Hart Lane, but Inter made me feel important and by speaking with Samaden I chose to stay.”
That’s a different reason to what Caldirola gave earlier this week, when he said the decision to reject a move to Spurs was taken after speaking with his parents.
Then, Caldirola said: “There were many scouts to see us and at that time I had proposals from several English teams, the most important four, and together with them even Tottenham, my favourite. My parents immediately said no, then we also spoke with Inter and they also gave me the first professional contract. I was happy to stay at Inter, it was my second home.”
Now 29 years of age, the defender’s career hasn’t gone quite as planned. Despite rejecting Chelsea and Tottenham and staying at Inter, he wasn’t able to breakthrough to the first team due to the strong competition.
Caldirola had loan spells at Vitesse and Brescia, until signing permanently for Cesena. Inter Milan bought him back in 2013, but then immediately sold him to Werder Bremen.
Last year, he joined Serie B side Benevento as a free agent.
