Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos has opened the door to an extended stay at Stuttgart beyond the end of the season.
Mavropanos is currently on loan with the German club, having joined them in the summer when it was clear he was not a part of Mikel Arteta’s plans.
After a shaky first half of the season, he’s been a regular since and at first, it appeared Stuttgart were keen to extend his loan next season.
Their Director of Football, Sven Mislintat, also suggested that was the case and would look for a deal, although recent comments in Germany saw him pull back on that and suggest it wouldn’t be possible.
Throughout the rumours, it has always been made clear that the ball would very much be in Arsenal’s court, with Stuttgart unable to afford a permanent deal and a loan highly dependent on the cost.
Up to this point, Mavropanos has not shared his stance, but that has now changed, with him admitting he wouldn’t mind staying.
“It’s still too early to talk about what the future will bring,” he told Stuttgarter Nachrichten.
“My contract with VfB ends in the summer and then I will return to Arsenal for the time being.
“But I can already imagine playing here for another year, because I feel good at VfB and the Bundesliga is very challenging.”
