Joao Cancelo has revealed he “accepted immediately” when the prospect of leaving Manchester City for Bayern Munich was presented to him in January.
The defender has been speaking to Bayern’s 51 magazine to discuss his time at the Allianz Arena so far and why he made the move.
He joined the German champions on loan from Manchester City at the end of the January transfer window in one of the more surprising moves of that month.
He had been a key player for Manchester City in recent years under Pep Guardiola but an apparent falling out with the Spanish boss, something both have since denied, led to him being allowed to leave the Etihad until the end of the season.
He’s had something of a turbulent time at Bayern since, both shining and struggling under former manager Julian Nagelsmann since January.
Despite that it seems he is happy with his time at the club so far, and insists he didn’t think twice about the possibility of joining them from Manchester City.
“With footballers, there is always a certain period of acclimatisation,” Fussball Transfers report him saying.
“That’s why I tried to integrate into the team as quickly as possible, to get to know my new colleagues and the system. On a team level and on a personal level, everything is going very well so far.
“When I got the opportunity to move to this great club, I accepted immediately. I’ve already been to Spain, Italy and England and now I wanted to experience football in Germany.”
