Since Fenerbahce signed Vincent Janssen from Tottenham on loan for the rest of the season, the Turkish press have been busy hyping the player up. Janssen’s background has been explained, and how he’d turned down other opportunities before Fenerbahce.
It was even suggested that Mauricio Pochettino didn’t want to lose Janssen, but the Dutchman was so keen on Fener he convinced his manager.
After that hyping, then came some inevitable doubt. Janssen’s poor start at Tottenham was covered, and the Turkish media explained fans may need to have patience and not expect too much too soon.
Now, there’s another negative, with it being explained Janssen turned down Newcastle United late in the English window. Skorer and others say Janssen was waiting for something better but when that didn’t happen, and the English window closed, Turkey became the make-do option.
So rather than Fenerbahce being the player’s plan and choice all along, there’s now the alternative view it was that or nothing. He’s probably best advised to score soon, so it’s the former slant rather than the latter which is grasped by Fener fans.
