Despite a huge flurry of excitement late on transfer deadline morning suggesting that Everton were getting close to signing Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto, that won’t be the case.

At least, that’s what Sport Italia are now reporting just before 3pm on Friday, as they claim the Italy international is ‘moving further away’ from Goodison Park.

The news they have received is that the young forward, who has been the subject of a lot of interest from various clubs around Europe, should ‘remain’ at Leeds United come the end of the day.

That would come as a blow for Everton if they were indeed trying to get a transfer for the exciting forward done, although there was some skepticism down our end regarding whether or not they had the funds for what was being labelled as a €45m transfer.

It was believed that the move to the Toffees was all done and the player would say goodbye to Leeds on deadline day, but that no longer appears to be the case.

Either way, this news should come as a huge relief for Leeds fans who were actually worried their prized asset could go to Everton.
