Huddersfield Town defender Terence Kongolo has told the Dutch media he wanted to succeed at AS Monaco, but had to leave to get playing time.
The 23 year old is currently on loan with Huddersfield Town until the end of the season.
Speaking to Ad.nl, Kongolo was asked why he took the decision to leave Monaco for the Premier League side: “I had to get minutes. Otherwise I would have to stand still for a year. There are different ways to the top. Of course I wanted to succeed in Monaco, I really thought it was a perfect step.
“I did not go there for the nice weather and the view. I did not get much of that, I usually sat indoors. Whether I was unhappy there? No, I do not think so.”
Kongolo arrived at Huddersfield as the January window opened, as part of the club’s efforts to stay in the Premier League.
In order to help in that regard, Kongolo will need to hit the ground running, and David Wagner will be watching with eager eyes in training.
It’s understandable the footballer would have preferred his Monaco career to have been a little smoother, and Monte Carlo is certainly nicer than Huddersfield at this time of year, but he has a chance to prove himself in the Premier League and that can only be good for his future career.
