When several of Europe’s leagues were extended following the start of the Covid-19 crisis, it was widely assumed that players on loan would automatically, or at least easily, have their stays prolonged.
That hasn’t been the case for all loan deals, with some clubs set to say goodbye to players whose loans expire today. Italy’s TMW report that Newcastle United and Consenza still haven’t come to an agreement on Achraf Lazaar.
Consenza, a Serie B club, want to keep the Newcastle owned player until their season finishes, and have asked the Premier League club to extend the deal. Despite time running out, nothing has yet been finalised, report TMW, and there’s been ‘hours of waiting’ for all those involved.
However, there’s some optimism an agreement will be found and Newcastle will give ‘white smoke’ on the deal, allowing Lazaar to stay where he is. There’s every chance the English side have been angling for a permanent transfer, and that’s caused the delay.
