While Manchester City are capable of splashing the cash on big names when the need arises, they are also quite good at finding what many might call underrated footballers to try and fit Pep Guardiola’s philosophy.
The likes of Rúben Dias or Ferran Torres spring to mind as recent successes, players who, while good for their respective former clubs, weren’t the biggest names in the business in their roles.
Another who could make the switch to the Etihad in the coming months is Sassuolo’s Manuel Locatelli, who appears to be on his way out from the Serie A club this summer, needing to make the leap to a bigger club to further his career.
The Italian side are perfectly fine with this, knowing their star has somewhat outgrown them and wanting to capitalise on the opportunity to fill up their coffers.
Their sporting director has already spoken on the matter in the past, and he did so again, interviewed by Tuttosport and relayed by Calciomercato about the €40m or so valued player.
About Locatelli exit, he said: “My hope is that it’s to a very great club: whether it be Juventus or Manchester City or others of global value, I don’t know. He deserves it and has the ability to aspire to it”.
