Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic spoke to the Portuguese media last night, and his quotes are now being featured in most local outlets.

The 32-year-old answered many questions about his past at Benfica, and talked about the love he has for the club, as well as the chances of being back at the Estádio da Luz one day.

“I haven’t thought about ending my career yet, let’s see. Benfica stayed in my heart and let’s see what brings us to the future,” Matic told Sport TV (via O Jogo).

“If Benfica believes it is possible for me to return, then let’s think about it. Now, I’m very happy at Manchester United, I don’t plan to leave yet but you never know what will happen. And if I ever return to Portugal, the only team I want to play for is Benfica”.

On manager Jorge Jesus, he claimed they should still have dinner together, given the coach’s importance in his career.

“Jesus marked me a lot, he was a very important coach, with whom I grew a lot as a player and as a person. That I will never forget. He’s a high level coach and I miss him. If I ever have time, I’ll come back to buy him dinner because he deserves it.”

The midfielder also had a bit more to say regarding his affection for the Lisbon side, claiming he ‘misses’ the club.

“I was very happy at Benfica, one of the best clubs in the world. I was very happy with the team, with the fans, with the people of the club and I always like to walk through Lisbon. My family likes the city a lot, we miss it a lot.”

Matic joined Benfica on a €5m move fom Chelsea in 2011. He stayed until January 2014, making 98 appearances for the Eagles, before being bought back by the Blues in a €25m deal.

It was in the summer of 2017 that Manchester United signed him in a €44.7m move, where he has a contract running until 2023, having featured in 146 games for the Red Devils so far.
